Tonight is McTeachers Night. I will be working the 4:30-6:00 shift. I hope to see you there!
This Friday is the Legoland Robotics Lab. Please remember to pack a lunch in a disposable bag and wear layers. It tends to be very breezy at Legoland. Leprechaun Traps have been assigned! You will find the instructions in this week's homework folder. They are due on Friday, March 16. Your kids are a bit excited!!! We drew our ideas today and wrote about our ideas. Those papers are in their backpacks today. Have Fun! Please don't feel like you need to purchase anything. We googled Leprechaun Traps and found awesome ideas with toilet paper rolls, paper towel rolls, cereal boxes, oatmeal containers, soup cans, twigs, etc. Tomorrow is the Valentines Day party. We will be having a brunch at 8:00am while we hand out our valentines. If you would like to join us, please sign in at the office. We have 24 students so please be sure to send enough cards for each child in the class.
I did not send homework home this week as we are out on Friday and Monday and we have lots of runny noses and coughs. Please continue to read with your children each night as part of your bedtime routine. All of the kids got to participate in an incredible assembly today. I sent pictures and hope that you enjoy them. They got to interact with tree frogs, water dragons, bearded dragons, snakes, spiders, hissing madagascar cockroaches, and turtles.
We will all be officially 100 days smarter tomorrow! Students are encouraged to dress up 100 years older than they usually are. No costume ideas? No problem! It's optional.
There are lots of parent notes coming home in the folders today. Information for the Read Across America Jogathon and Valentine's Dance was included. We also will be celebrating the 100th Day of School this Thursday. We are asking for donations for a 100th Day Snack. We specifically need RAISINS, PRETZELS, and ANIMAL CRACKERS please.
I hope you are all as proud of your hard working children as I am. This week's sight word flashcards are going to knock your socks off! So many of our team have gone up multiple list levels over the course of the last two weeks. Give them a cheer when you see their new words. We are opening a new reading theme and are focusing on subtraction this week. We are summarizing and comparing and contrasting during our writing time. Please continue encouraging your children to write notes back and forth with you to practice their complete thoughts and sentences.
The children learned about Vista's Big Give at the Leadership Spotlight Assembly this morning. Any child who donates $5 or more will get to sign a star to be added to the wall in the MPR. All proceeds directly benefit three children of Vista battling disease as their wishes are granted. Tomorrow is Pajama Day for Kindness Week and our school renaming celebration from 6:00-7:30pm. Come party with our T.H.E. Leadership Academy Community!
Today's homework folders brought lots of information to you. First off, we are officially renamed T.H.E. Leadership Academy!! I was honored to be selected as one of the seven Founding Faculty members in 2003. We hired the teaching staff and worked together to make the decisions that brought Temple Heights Elementary to life. Here we are in 2017 continuing to embark on challenging, innovative, and compassionate educational adventures with your children. It is a privilege to be a part of this staff and school community. We are inviting you to join us on Thursday, January 25 for a free pizza dinner to celebrate this milestone. Sadly, I cannot attend as I'm leading a site at my church's Community Serve Day and have to attend a training Thursday night. I hope that you and your family can make it though. Please return the yellow rsvp paper so that we can order food accordingly.
You also received paperwork about our next field trip. First grade will be taking a trip to the Legoland Robotics lab on March 9th. Your child will be building a robot and using computer coding to make their robot move! Student cost will be $10.00. Sorry, child Legoland passes may not be used for the field trip. Each classroom is allowed a certain amount of parents to attend at $10.00. Any parent wishing to attend but the allotted spots are taken, can still attend but will need to pay 25.00. The Room 108 Calendar has been updated through the end of the school year on the website homepage. You will have to use your computer rather than your phone to view it.
THE Movie Night is tomorrow, Thursday, January 11, The movie starts at 5:00pm.
Welcome back! Click the link to see our Winter Concert goo.gl/xySGGh
Today we started right in on Reading Theme 5 and the story "The Kite" and introduced contractions. Big Concept!! We also began Unit 9 in math. Your child will benefit from counting 1 to 100 and 100 to 1 while we investigate less and more using ones, fives and tens. When writing at home, help your child remember that a proper sentence includes a capital and period with a subject and predicate in between. Tonight is the January PTA meeting at 6:00pm. Tomorrow is Coffee Talk with the Principal. Thursday is movie night at 5:00pm. This Friday is not a student day as all the district teachers attend professional development at the high school. Tuesday is our long awaited Polar Express Day! We will be hopping on the Polar Express Train at 8:00. We will arrive back at school at 11:00. You are welcome to come for part of or stay for the whole experience. Children are encouraged to wear pajamas (no blankets or stuffed animals) and regular school shoes.
Our First Grade Holiday performance will be Wednesday, at 10:00. Doors will open at 9:30. I would suggest getting here early. We will be on the risers to the right of the stage when you look at it. We will invite each class to come up at the end of the show to take a photograph of their child's class. Hi Parents, I wanted to share that your kids are having a fantastic afternoon filled with centers while we are staying in our classroom. The kids are happily writing elf stories, designing and building North Pole structures and reading our library books. Everyone is happy for this special afternoon, but think it's pretty stinky whenever our classroom door opens. Those going to AMPM will be meeting Miss Debbie in the MPR and I will be walking to others to the flag pole when the bell rings as usual.
Dear Families,
The Polar Express “will be arriving” in all First grade classrooms on Tuesday, December 19th @8:00 sharp and will make it to Christmas station by 11:00! We’ve been told that Santa will be making an appearance. (SHHH) Students can wear their pajamas and regular shoes. They may bring a robe, slippers and may bring a favorite stuffed animal for inside the classroom! In First grade, we will be bringing the amazing story to “Life” as we all cruise on the Polar Express and stop at fun stations along the way. In order to make this event very special and magical, every classroom is in need of the following donations:
Parent volunteers are needed... Train Conductor: Each classroom will need ONE parent to be the train conductor and collect tickets as the kids board each part of the train. Plan on wearing a shirt and tie or vest to look like a train conductor and bring a big bell. Parent Photographer: Each classroom could use a parent to photograph each student as they board the train. Hot Cocoa Parents needed: You will serve hot cocoa and chocolate donuts on the train and to help out at the Polar Express stops! You will need to wear holiday gear or pajamas while on the train. Don’t forget a tray and an apron!! Each classroom could use 3-4 hot cocoa parents. Polar Express Day is Tuesday, December 19. We will participate in rotations from 8:00-9:30. Please let me know if you are available to help!
Holiday Parent Performance is Wednesday, December 20 at 10:00am in the MPR. Please join us as we sing Holiday song for you. Please see this note from Mrs. Morton-
Dear Temple Heights Families, We have had an increase in head lice cases here at Temple Heights. We are sharing this information so that you may take steps to help prevent your child from head lice. While direct head-to-head contact is the usual form of transmission, please encourage your child not to share any personal items such as hats, hair accessories, or combs. Check your child’s head weekly for lice and/or nits. If you find head lice on your child, please treat them before sending them back to school. Feel free to contact our health tech [email protected] with any questions you may have. Thank you, Mrs. Morton Girls on the Run is hosting a nacho fundraiser this Friday to raise funds for materials to make hygiene/winter packs for the homeless.

You'll get to watch all of the kids' Spark Videos about the monthly Quests in the Spring at Open House. Please join us for the next one, Building Quest, in November. Sign Up on the PARENTS page of the website. The kids were just a little excited about their first field trip being only one week away today! I'm so glad that so many of you are driving your cars to share this special event. As they get older, there are very strict guidelines for the number of parents involved in field trips. This was a great opportunity to take advantage of. Now let's hope for Fall temperatures next week!
Monday is Pumpkin Quest. Please send any of the following donations: 5 medium sized pumpkins to carve one scale to borrow to weigh the pumpkins bag of pumpkin seeds to eat one store bought pumpkin pie The kids are really enjoying the Science aspect of first grade this year. Please ask them about the Mystery Science Beaks experiment earlier this week. Have a great weekend! On a personal note, my mom, Mrs. Richard, came to help this week. She could not say enough about how much your children have grown and matured since she saw them last. She was so impressed with how respectful and gracious they were while working with her. She said each child gave her pleases, thank yous, and sweet compliments. Everyone who works with them says the same thing. What a wonderful group of kids and families. |
