I have been given the most exciting opportunity… moving to FIRST GRADE next year! As you know, I so enjoy this special group of children. I would love to keep our class together and continue working with your children right where we are leaving off for summer. Staying with one teacher for two grade levels is known as LOOPING and has many educational benefits. First and foremost, there is no loss of time while assessing student levels. We will hit the ground running in August with new literature groups, writers workshops, and math teams. Also, there is no time wasted getting to know new teacher routines, expectations, and new personalities. Our class is a well oiled machine, and I know all of the kids’ academic strengths and challenges. I hope our class chooses to stay together, however, if you feel that your child would benefit from a fresh start with another of the first grade teachers, that is absolutely fine, as well. Please returned the signed note sent home today right away.
Also, I sent home some practice workbooks and journals with your children for them to have something to work on this summer. I will also offer other summer challenges and incentives to maintain their new skills. Kindergarten got to participate in a Reading Awards assembly today. Congratulations to all of the readers recognized with their certificates! This Friday is Pirate Day. Please do not send any swords or weapons. Dress up and enjoy!
June 7 is Kindergarten Promotion. It will be held in the MPR at 9:30am followed by juice and treats. If you would like to donate mini muffins, juice boxes, or other treats for the event, please let me know. The final restaurant fundraiser of this school year is next Friday!

I received the most incredible basket of goodies, cards, flowers, coffee maker, and gift cards this week! What an incredible feeling of appreciation to be honored in such a way. I cannot say enough how grateful I am for both the gifts and the incredible notes. Then so many of you went out of your way to help with the special treats and lunch we all got to enjoy today. Thank you so much from myself and for my wonderful colleagues. Regardless of the week, I've told your children so many times that there is just a uniqueness to this group of kids. They are so enjoyable and entertaining to work with. They have such good hearts and excitement towards learning. It's every teacher's dream to enjoy a year such as this. Thank you for sending them my way. Have a wonderful weekend!
This week we are working on letter /Y / and all of the short vowel sounds. Math is still in geometry mode with plane and solid figures. We are writing longer and longer sentences daily. Please continue practicing those sight word flashcards, a new set came home last week. They are so helpful with all of the information the kids want to share in their writing. You can also make your own flashcards from the same list on this website. We are excitedly moving out of kindergarten and into First-graders In Training (FIT Kids). Ask your kids about our new flexible seating environment. I told them their reading, writing, and math was "knocking my socks off" and we had to step up our game. They are loving the personal choice of space. Tomorrow we move into personal choice of center task during read group time.
Music on the Green shirts went on sale today. A note was sent home with your child. Addition information can be picked up in the office. We are still collecting donations for our TEA and COFFEE basket. Speaking of donations, we could use some fish or animal crackers to finish off our school year snack time. We are almost out of our last container. Also, I could use a replenishment of GALLON sized PLASTIC BAGS. We used the last of our bags for our book bags today. Thank you so much!!! I ordered regular sized pencils which should arrive any day and we are looking forward to using first grade pencils. We'll always take donations though. They go quickly. Ticonderoga brand only please. They are the only ones that sharpen correctly for some reason. |
