We will all be officially 100 days smarter tomorrow! Students are encouraged to dress up 100 years older than they usually are. No costume ideas? No problem! It's optional.
There are lots of parent notes coming home in the folders today. Information for the Read Across America Jogathon and Valentine's Dance was included. We also will be celebrating the 100th Day of School this Thursday. We are asking for donations for a 100th Day Snack. We specifically need RAISINS, PRETZELS, and ANIMAL CRACKERS please.
I hope you are all as proud of your hard working children as I am. This week's sight word flashcards are going to knock your socks off! So many of our team have gone up multiple list levels over the course of the last two weeks. Give them a cheer when you see their new words. We are opening a new reading theme and are focusing on subtraction this week. We are summarizing and comparing and contrasting during our writing time. Please continue encouraging your children to write notes back and forth with you to practice their complete thoughts and sentences.
The children learned about Vista's Big Give at the Leadership Spotlight Assembly this morning. Any child who donates $5 or more will get to sign a star to be added to the wall in the MPR. All proceeds directly benefit three children of Vista battling disease as their wishes are granted. Tomorrow is Pajama Day for Kindness Week and our school renaming celebration from 6:00-7:30pm. Come party with our T.H.E. Leadership Academy Community!
Today's homework folders brought lots of information to you. First off, we are officially renamed T.H.E. Leadership Academy!! I was honored to be selected as one of the seven Founding Faculty members in 2003. We hired the teaching staff and worked together to make the decisions that brought Temple Heights Elementary to life. Here we are in 2017 continuing to embark on challenging, innovative, and compassionate educational adventures with your children. It is a privilege to be a part of this staff and school community. We are inviting you to join us on Thursday, January 25 for a free pizza dinner to celebrate this milestone. Sadly, I cannot attend as I'm leading a site at my church's Community Serve Day and have to attend a training Thursday night. I hope that you and your family can make it though. Please return the yellow rsvp paper so that we can order food accordingly.
You also received paperwork about our next field trip. First grade will be taking a trip to the Legoland Robotics lab on March 9th. Your child will be building a robot and using computer coding to make their robot move! Student cost will be $10.00. Sorry, child Legoland passes may not be used for the field trip. Each classroom is allowed a certain amount of parents to attend at $10.00. Any parent wishing to attend but the allotted spots are taken, can still attend but will need to pay 25.00. The Room 108 Calendar has been updated through the end of the school year on the website homepage. You will have to use your computer rather than your phone to view it.
THE Movie Night is tomorrow, Thursday, January 11, The movie starts at 5:00pm.

Today we started right in on Reading Theme 5 and the story "The Kite" and introduced contractions. Big Concept!! We also began Unit 9 in math. Your child will benefit from counting 1 to 100 and 100 to 1 while we investigate less and more using ones, fives and tens. When writing at home, help your child remember that a proper sentence includes a capital and period with a subject and predicate in between. Tonight is the January PTA meeting at 6:00pm. Tomorrow is Coffee Talk with the Principal. Thursday is movie night at 5:00pm. This Friday is not a student day as all the district teachers attend professional development at the high school. |
