Please return the Permission Slips and money for the Field Trip by this Wednesday. This week we begin working on short "U" vowel sounds. We are working with addition and subtraction facts up to 12. Our personal narrative writing will be culminating in an independent project at school this week. In science we are observing apples on Friday. If you'd like, please send in one apple with your child to share by this Friday. Watch DOGS Pizza and Kids Night is September 27. We hope many of you will be able to attend. Please return your sign up sheet asap. You can get a new one in the office, if necessary. I sent home the Bates Nut Farm permission slips today. Bright Yellow - can't miss them! The field trip will be on Thursday, October 4 from 8:30-1:00pm. The cost is $16 per child. This cost includes a pumpkin, admission, and transportation. Chaperone admission is $5 and this DOES NOT include a pumpkin.
Bus seating is limited to two chaperones per classroom. I will draw names out of a hat on Wednesday, September 26 for two adults to ride the bus. All other chaperones must take their own car or carpool. Please return the paperwork with a check or by paying online asap. This week we are reading two stories "What Can a Vet Do?" and "Hot Fox Soup". Our phonics emphasis is short "E' sounds. In writing we are focusing on personal narratives and looking to add another sentence to our stories. Math is all about addition and sums. Science continues to focus on making observations and looking for patterns.
Please return your child's permission slip for A+ Dentistry if he or she will be participating by this Wednesday, Sept 19. This weekend is the Family Campout at T.H.E. Leadership Academy. Saturday morning will also be a fundraising breakfast at IHOP from 8:00am-12:00pm. Save the Date: Bates Nut Farm Field Trip will be Thursday, October 4th. All parents are welcome to join, but bus space will be limited so personal cars will be needed. More information to come, please DO NOT rsvp at this time. - Save the Date only This week we have a writing task assigned again. We have been reading a story called Wigs in a Box. The kids have talked about lots of funny and surprising things they would like to find in a box. Encourage them to be creative in their writing this week. Use descriptive words like to describe what mystery they would find in the box. Each child should be able to write 2 complete sentences including capitals, finger spacing, and punctuation. Thanks for your help at home!
So often I'm asked the same question. How do I help my child be successful? Check out the P.A.L. Plan link that I added to the website. It's the plan I used when I tutored children after school. You can use the FRY List words, the short vowel (a, e, i, o, u) lists I gave you at Back to School Night, or you can make up words as we go along using the Words of the Week (under my photo) as a guide.
We are very excited for our Reuben H. Fleet Assembly THIS Thursday, September 13. Please return your $4 donation per child as soon as possible.
This week I did not include a writing page in the Friday Folder. Instead, I would like to work on the students' speaking skills. I have asked to students to bring in jokes or riddles to share with the class. They will be working on speaking clearly, loudly, and making eye contact. Your kids can write down a joke or memorize it to share. They are also encouraged to bring in more than one joke. I look forward to hearing what they come up with. This week we will be reading the stories, The Box and Wigs in a Box. We will be focusing on short "o" vowels. In math we are working on addition to 10. Writing tasks are built around the narrative type of writing. I hope you all enjoyed the long weekend. The kids were extremely excited to bring home their Friday Folders. If your child returned the writing task from the homework, he or she received an award. I like to recognize effort and/or achieving academic goals at random times. You will also see awards come home frequently from Lexia Core5 as your child increases the levels of mastery. Please celebrate each of these successes knowing there is a lot of hard work being accomplished.
This week we will be working on new word families "it" and "ig". The kids would really benefit from rhyming words within these families with you at home nightly. We rhyme throughout the day but I'm seeing a general weakness overall in the class when it comes to producing rhyming words. We continue to practice complete sentences with capitals and periods and space between our words. In math, we are talking about and showing parts, wholes, and addition. Get those math flashcards on the ready! Tomorrow morning is Coffee Talk with Mrs. Morton at 7:45. She invites parents to coffee the first Wednesday of each month to hear about what's happening at THE Leadership Academy. The first PTA meeting is also around the corner. IT'S TONIGHT AT 6PM IN THE TEACHERS LOUNGE. I invite you all to come and see what PTA is about. |
